Service Innovation as a Driver of Change for European Industries and Regions

The European Service Innovation Centre (ESIC) conference in Helsinki, Finland on September 9-10, 2014 is a platform for everyone engaged or interested in service innovations. The conference gathers national and regional policy makers, practitioners, experts, academics and company representatives.  It will present and discuss the key findings of the ESIC and highlighting the work done and lessons learned in the field of service innovation and regional policy.

The conference will provide answers to the following questions:

• How service innovations foster regional growth?
• How can the transformative power of service innovation be captured and demonstrated?
• What kind of policies, tools and measures need to be in place to allow the transformation of regional economies?
• What are the main outcomes achieved in six model demonstrator regions and what can be learned from their experiences?

The conference is free of charge and is organised by the European Service Innovation Centre, set up by the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General of the European Commission.

Please note that the ESIC conference is followed by the 24th International Conference of the European Association for Research on Services (RESER) later the same week. RESER conference is a multidisciplinary forum, where researchers in economics, geography, sociology, management, marketing and many other disciplines meet to share the latest advances in research on services.

The conference main theme, "Services and New Societal Challenges: Innovation for Sustainable Growth and Welfare", highlights that services are embedded in the development of the present society. Solutions to the biggest societal challenges require systemic innovations, but also these innovations often manifest themselves as new or improved services.
