ESNC Awards Ceremony 2015

2015-10-20 - 2015-10-20

The 2015 joint Awards Ceremony of Europe's major innovation competitions for space applications - the Copernicus Masters and the European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC), will take place on Tuesday, 20 October 2015 in Berlin.

The festive Awards Ceremony will recognise this year's most outstanding applications for Copernicus and Galileo in various categories. The prizes will be presented by high-ranking representatives from industry, institutions and research.

Copernicus Masters

The tremendous amounts of data produced by the European Earth observation programme Copernicus and its Sentinel satellites hugely benefit science and public authorities and open the door to countless products and applications in a wide array of business sectors.
The Copernicus Masters competition is inviting all interested participants to submit outstanding ideas, applications, and business concepts involving innovative uses of Earth observation data by 13 July 2015.

In this year's edition, prizes worth EUR 300,000 will be awarded in topic-specific challenges sponsored by a number of world-class partners, including: the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), T-Systems International GmbH, Satellite Applications Catapult Ltd., Greece's National Cadastre and Mapping Agency (NCMA), CloudEO AG, and European Space Imaging GmbH. In addition, the new University Challenge specifically addresses students and research assistants around the world.

Experts from the realms of research and industry will be tasked with selecting the winner of each challenge. The overall winner - the 2015 Copernicus Master - will receive (along with their challenge prize) EUR 20,000 in cash and a satellite data package worth a further EUR 60,000, which is being provided with the financial support of the European Commission.

European Satellite Navigation Competition

Having started in 2004, each year the European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC) recognises the best products, services, and innovations that leverage satellite navigation in our daily lives. The 2015 ESNC's global partner regions as well as key institutional stakeholders award prizes worth around EUR 1 million - including cash, business incubation, coaching, patent consulting, prototyping and marketing support, access to customers and user communities, and publicity in the world's leading satellite navigation network. More than 130 partners, including the most relevant European GNSS stakeholders, support participants in taking the next step with their business cases. A network of more than 240 international experts from industry, research, and politics is entrusted with evaluating the submitted ideas in the ESNC. The 2015 ESNC overall winner will be selected from among all of the competition's 24 regional and 6 special prize winners by an international panel of high-ranking experts. This outstanding entrant will be revealed at the Awards Ceremony and receive an additional cash prize of EUR 20,000, as well as the chance to realise the winning idea as part of a six-month incubation programme in the region of their choice.

The submission phase of the next ESNC will run from 1 April to 30 June 2016.
